A Touch of Order

With Cable Cobra, we were able to bring e-mobility closer to comfort.

Cable Cobra approached us with the opportunity to further develop its patented suspension mechanism for rolling up a Type 3 charging cable for electric vehicles. The product prevents cable damage, keeps hands clean, and eliminates trunk clutter—helping users stay tidy while moving sustainably. Rojahn Design transformed the original concept into a cost-effective and robust evolution.

We evaluated the client’s initial idea of producing the main Cable Cobra body from injection-molded plastic against various alternatives. Our approach optimized the design with a more sustainable sheet metal construction, which is more durable, weather-resistant, and easier to assemble.

Injection molding would have meant higher tooling costs and more complex development and assembly processes—both of which were significantly reduced with the sheet metal solution. A key focus was to deliver a high-quality, long-lasting design that strengthens market entry while minimizing production effort. The weatherproof design was crafted so that the cable—regardless of its diameter—rests gently in the “cobra head” without risk of damage.
